Michael booked a one-way ticket to leave Australia in 2011 and has been travelling ever since, exploring destinations across the world through their history, people and food. He loves hiking and also focuses on World Heritage Sites (hoping to visit all 1200+ eventually!).
My all-time favourite destination is … Japan. There’s so much diversity packed into such a small area, from the dazzling modern metropolises to the small traditional villages. I’ve been dozens of times and am always amazed by new experiences.
Next on my bucket list is … Taiwan. I’ve always been inspired by Asia and have travelled through so much of it so many times, but for some reason I’ve never made it here. (Which is especially odd considering how much I love dumplings.)
My top travel tip is … Put down your phone! Yes, it’s very convenient to have maps and translation tools at your fingertips, but some of my most rewarding experiences have come from asking locals for recommendations.
