As retailers struggle to lure shoppers, New York City has the answer: irresistible eateries.

Tiffany

Breakfast at Tiffany's? That's so New York. Step inside Tiffany & Co.'s flagship jewellery store on Fifth Avenue to discover Blue Box Cafe by renowned chef Daniel Boulud. Inspired by the brand's iconic blue boxes, the dazzling turquoise decor features modern Art Deco touches and custom art. While the fictional character Holly Golightly bit into a croissant from a paper bag in the 1961 classic film Breakfast at Tiffany's, today's visitors have more lavish options. On the menu is breakfast - of course - as well as afternoon tea and French-accented all-day dining. Indulge in caviar scrambled eggs, lobster vol-au-vent or pistachio choux, with or without a detour to the diamond ring displays. Reservations are highly recommended, though it is always worth trying for walk-in availability. blueboxcafenyc.com

Louis Vuitton

Le Cafe Louis Vuitton specialises in "luxury snacking", a fancy name for small, well-crafted bites at premium prices. The only cafe of its kind in Louis Vuitton's United States stores, this playground of the pampered is located on the fourth floor of the brand's temporary flagship on East 57th Street. Louis Vuitton fans say it's 100 per cent worth the outlay for monogrammed morsels of lobster rolls, sliders, truffle mashed potatoes and mushroom ravioli. Start the day with a luxe breakfast, or visit for afternoon tea to enjoy dainty savoury and sweet treats, including smoked salmon caviar sandwiches and mini chocolate biscuits with cocoa ganache. That is, if you manage to nab a reservation. On any given day, the waitlist can exceed a thousand names. lecafelvnyc.com

Printemps New York

Maison Passerelle.

When French luxury department store Printemps recently opened its first US location, there was as much excitement about the food-and-beverage offerings as the designer dresses and shoes. Printemps New York, located downtown at One Wall Street, has quickly become a popular dining destination with no less than five great options for drinks and food. Helmed by chef Gregory Gourdet, a James Beard Award winner and two-time Top Chef finalist, the store's fine-dining restaurant Maison Passerelle leans into French Creole and Caribbean flavours, with warm plantain bread and a duck confit coconut curry you won't forget in a hurry. Salon Vert is seafood-focused, while Cafe Jalu is the place for lighter bites. Toast to NYC with a glass of fine French bubbles at the Champagne Bar. us.printemps.com

Nordstrom

Located at the corner of 57th Street and Broadway, Nordstrom's NYC flagship is a major department store over seven floors. The place to go for high-end fashion, handbags, shoes and more, the store has some "secret gem" dining options for those looking to rest and refuel in busy midtown Manhattan. The signature Bistro Verde offers Italian-American fare at very reasonable prices: a delicious bowl of Roma tomato basil soup for $US9.25 ($13), kung pao brussels sprouts and chicken sausage for $US13.50. At Wolf, a refined restaurant by Seattle chef Ethan Stowell, the pastas, salads and share plates are on point (don't miss the polenta fritters with ricotta, chestnut honey and sage). Save at happy hour (3pm-6pm, Monday-Friday) so you can spend more on retail therapy. nordstrom.com
