Australians are heading to one of their favourite holiday destinations, Fiji, in big numbers. More than 160,000 travellers visited the island nation between January and May this - an 8.3 per cent increase on last year's volume. In fact, 12 per cent more Australians holidayed in Fiji in May alone this year than in the same month in 2023. If you're planning to follow suit this winter, here are a couple of key updates to keep in mind.

Snorkelling is being offered to tourists in the Naidiri Marine Biodiversity Park for the first time since its establishment in 2009. Located just a one-hour drive south of Nadi, the protected area along the coral coast of Fiji is renowned for its conservation efforts, which have resulted in a colourful underwater world. More ocean-based adventures await at Castaway Island resort, where a grand Water Park - complete with a trampoline, water slide, swing and tower - has just opened. As the resort's general manager Steven Andrews says, it's going "to provide unforgettable moments for our guests". naidirimarinebiopark.org; outrigger.com/fiji/castaway-island-fiji
