Bondi and St Kilda might get salty: This is Australia's best beach

It isn't the usual suspects, but a hidden gem down south.

A 20-kilometre coastal strip in Tasmania's Bay of Fires region has been raked Australia's best beach.

Bondi and St Kilda might get a little salty because a 20-kilometre coastal strip in Tasmania's Bay of Fires region has been crowned Australia's best beach.

The sandy slice of heaven dubbed Australia's best by Tourism Australia's 2025 Best Australian Beaches list runs between The Gardens bay and Binalong Bay along the north-east coast of rugged Tasmania.

"It's a long stretch to explore in a day, or even over a weekend," Tourism Australia's beach ambassador Brad Farmer told Explore. "But there are some stunning coves and bays with crystal-clear waters, so you can choose your own adventure."

One of Farmer's personal spots along the stretch is Cosy Corner. "It has amenities, so it's very convenient for all types of travellers."

Woolgoolga beach near Coffs Harbour in NSW's Mid North Coast has been judged the country's second-best beach.

Farmer also recommends Swimcart Beach. "It's a great spot to check out those dramatic orange lichen rocks that are very emblematic of this north-east section of Tasmania."

Fishery Bay in South Australia has been ranked number six.

Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell said there's no doubt that Australia has the best beaches in the world.

"This year's list showcases to the world what Aussies already know - that Bondi and Brighton are great, but it's worth the journey to see some truly unique beaches in regional Australia," he added.
